FAST channel launch checklist

The work that has to be done before a free ad-supported streaming channel goes on air, from rights to the parallel run. Tick items off as you go.

Rights and content

Confirm FAST (free ad-supported) rights for each title, territory, and platform. They are often separate from SVOD or broadcast rights.
Record rights windows and expiry dates so expired titles leave the schedule automatically.
Check music rights inside programs, and any reporting the licenses require.
Have enough library hours to fill the schedule you plan without obvious repetition.

Media and metadata

Mezzanine files in a supported format, with consistent frame rate and resolution across the channel.
Captions for every title. In the U.S., FCC rules require captions on internet-delivered programs that aired on TV with captions.
Loudness checked against ATSC A/85 (−24 LKFS) or the platform's own target.
Episode metadata: titles, descriptions, ratings, genres, and artwork in each platform's required sizes.

Channel design

Channel name, logo, on-screen bug, and graphics package.
Schedule structure: dayparts, programming blocks, and repeat rules.
Break structure: number of breaks, positions, and durations per hour.
Promos and slate to fill unsold ad time.

Platform delivery

Signed carriage agreement with each platform.
Each platform's delivery spec: stream format, bitrate ladder, ad marker style, and program guide format.
Test stream URLs and guide feed sent to each platform for QA.
Monitoring contacts and an escalation path agreed with each platform.

Advertising

Inventory split or revenue share confirmed for each platform.
Ad server configured, or demand partners connected through Moment Exchange.
ads.txt and app-ads.txt entries published where platforms or buyers require them.
Ad quality rules: blocked categories, competitive separation, and frequency caps.
A reporting and reconciliation process for every demand source.

Launch

Parallel run with real cues and live ads, checked end to end.
As-run and proof-of-play reports reviewed against the schedule.
Launch date agreed with each platform's programming team.
A post-launch review booked for the first weeks on air.
